Zebra Vector Art Experiment
Adobe Illustrator is one of my favourite tools. I use it a lot when designing logos and branding and creating social media posts, and I once tried to use it to create art.
Before I started selling my art, I was apprehensive about ensuring the sizing and resolution of my work were correct to be printed at scale. I was beginning to draw on my iPad but was worried about selling images that were not good quality. I thought it would be good to create some vector art to be sure it would work at scale. I tried using adobe fresco and the vector brushes there but I wanted to experiment with a few options.
This is how I created the Zebra illustration. I used an image of a zebra found online and spent a long time improving my pen tool skills in Adobe Illustrator. I traced over all the black shapes on the Zebra to create this image. I filled the shapes with an off-black colour, so it's not so harsh and decided to leave the rest of the image as negative space.
I’m pleased with how this turned out and thought it would look great in a nursery, so I gifted a print of it to my cousin, who had recently had a baby girl. Since creating this illustration, I attempted to create a giraffe in a similar style, but it didn’t work out. In the meantime, I researched getting the correct resolution for my procreate images to be sold at scale, so I went back to creating art using that instead. Perhaps I will have another go at some point, but this is a standalone creation for now.
